The damage caused by heavy rainfall in Germany increased tenfold in 2016 compared to the previous year. Managing rainwater is becoming an increasing challenge for municipalities, architects, urban planners, and water builders, as well as for settlement water management and infrastructure planning. The practical knowledge volume "Challenge of Rainwater" addresses issues of risk management and municipal liability, examines models for flood prevention in the context of climate change, and evaluates the effectiveness of various current systems for the drainage and utilization of rainwater. New retention methods are presented, and established, long-operating decentralized infiltration systems are put to the test. The focus is also on pollutant loads, particularly from runoff on traffic surfaces. "Challenge of Rainwater" provides a current overview of tested and innovative responses to a growing natural hazard that will continue to concern us in the future.
