Werke für Orgel

The organ works of Johannes Brahms essentially frame his entire oeuvre. Some preludes and fugues, as well as the chorale prelude on "O Traurigkeit, o Herzeleid," date from the mid-1850s, when Brahms was engaged in intensive counterpoint studies. In contrast, the eleven chorale preludes op. 122 are Brahms' last work, composed in 1896, shortly before and after the death of Clara Schumann. The revised Henle Urtext edition presents all of the composer’s organ works in one volume, based on the musical text of the new complete edition of Brahms, accompanied by a preface and notes reflecting the latest in scholarly research. The appendix additionally includes the early versions of two pieces.
