Carl Hartwich was ahead of his time in the early 20th century. His work "Die menschlichen Genussmittel" (The Human Enjoyments) from 1911 is now rarely available in antiquarian bookstores and, when it is, it comes at exorbitant prices.

This ethnopharmacological classic documented psychotropic plants and mushrooms from around the world earlier than any other book; to this day, experts sometimes wonder where the author unearthed all the diverse information. The Nachtschatten Verlag makes the original chapter on hemp available again with this newly designed reprint.

Treatises on hashish, culturally conditioned forms of paraphernalia (pipes, etc.), and psychoactive products, such as "Madjun," complete the work.
