Hellenika

Xenophon's "Hellenika" is considered one of the most important sources for the final years of the Peloponnesian War up to the end of Theban dominance in Greece. As a direct continuation of Thucydides' work, the Hellenika narrates the history of Greece from 411 to 362 BC. In doing so, Xenophon established the ancient tradition of continuous historiography, which would persist until the end of Late Antiquity. Additionally, the book is exemplary not only for its central historical significance but also for Attic Greek, thus contributing to the stylistic tradition of ancient historiography. Particularly intriguing is the fact that many of the events described in his "Hellenika" were witnessed by Xenophon himself.
