Helios Deutsche Abwurfmunition im Zweiten Weltkrieg
German, Wolfgang Fleischer, 2015Product details
What is known about the air force's drop munitions during World War II, their classification, handling, deployment, and effects? Not much, as this interesting topic is often overlooked in military historical literature. The focus is frequently on the consequences - their mass drop during the unlawful bombing of area targets and terror attacks against civilians. This is true. However, there is a noticeable lack of basic knowledge regarding the tactical and technical aspects of these air warfare munitions. This work on German drop munitions from World War II aims to contribute to closing this information gap. Fundamental characteristics of bombs for a future air force were already established in Germany in the early 1930s. Initial practical experiences were gained during the "Condor" Legion in the course of the Spanish Civil War until 1939, providing important impulses for further development. During World War II, the drop munitions were adapted to the changing conditions of this military conflict fought globally on land, at sea, and in the air. Readers will find this brief historical overview in the introduction. The main section describes the different types of German drop munitions. For the first time in this scope, information is provided on the coloring of bomb bodies, their labeling, packaging, transport, and the effects of this munitions. The book, featuring 213 illustrations, drawings, and sketches, is an indispensable reference work for ordnance disposal technicians, both professional and volunteer historians, chroniclers, militaria collectors, and model builders.
