Product details
The youngest Blue Rider was long overshadowed by his fellow painters Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, August Macke and Paul Klee. In 1921, the art historian and publisher Georg Biermann described Campendonk's early work in Junge Kunst as a single symphony of colour and rhythm. A few years later, his paintings were defamed as degenerate and he was driven into exile in Holland, where he died in 1957. In this bibliophile volume, the author sets out to trace one of the most fascinating artistic personalities of the last century and vividly explains the exciting interweaving of his artistic development and contemporary history.
