Product details
Although Heino Jaeger celebrated numerous successes during his lifetime, especially as a satirist, his artistic work has remained unknown to many until today. Born in Hamburg-Harburg in 1938, Jaeger began studying art in 1956 after a few detours. Parallel to his artistic work, he also developed a linguistic oeuvre at an early stage. With stage appearances, radio contributions and his first LP, he gained popularity in the 1970s. Exhibitions were followed by stage shows and television appearances. Already in his early youth, Jaeger portrayed and caricatured his surroundings and continued to produce paintings and graphic works until the last years of his life. Jaeger's superficially everyday scenes are saturated with irony and scurrility. With the often exaggerated depictions of partly mutated or mechanised figures, Jaeger delivers a highly subjective and partly gloomy view of the world. At the same time, the enigmatically grotesque excesses are strongly reminiscent of the work of Hieronymus Bosch, whom Jaeger admires, and his satirical moral painting, brimming with fantasy. With more than 500 illustrations and numerous essays, the catalogue offers deep insights and a fascinating overview of Heino Jaeger's visual oeuvre. The publication is published to complement Rocko Schamoni's book "Der Jaeger und sein Meister", which is itself based on extensive research on Heino Jaeger.
