On a bridge over a Swiss lake, Heinrich Übel crashes his borrowed American convertible into the railing. When he regains consciousness after the accident, he finds himself in an old-fashioned hotel in Sicily. He knows who he is, but he has no idea how he got there. The people in the small coastal town treat him very differently than those in his former life: he, who was once rather unlucky, is suddenly a hero and a ladies' man. But has the world around him changed, or has he himself become someone else? What really happened during his accident on the bridge over the lake?.
