With the topic of "transidentity" entering the consciousness of the general public, there are more and more requests for treatment of adolescents with gender dysphoria and transgender experiences in child and adolescent psychotherapy practices. The factors influencing the formation of identity are manifold and accompanying the everyday testing of trans* adolescents in their perceived gender presents therapists with a special challenge. Heiko Dietrich uses case studies to show essential aspects of therapeutic work with this clientele. He discusses the confrontation with the transgender experience as well as the influence of psychological disorders on the self-image of the adolescents, in order to gain security for the therapists for good decision-making in the indication of medical measures.
