Product details

"Encountering the Afo / Eloyi People of Northern Nigeria" by Heidi Tacier offers a deep insight into the anthropological research conducted in 1954-55 by two Swiss women, Elsy Leuzinger and Jolantha Tschudi, in the hills of Northern Nigeria. These pioneers lived in four different villages of the Afo, now known as Eloyi, and documented their traditional way of life, customs, and rituals through participant observations and interviews. The results of their research were published in 1956 and 1966, but a large portion of the visual material remained undiscovered until 2019. This book now presents the newly rediscovered photographs and color slides for the first time, allowing both the Eloyi community and the general public access to these historical documents. It not only highlights the cultural practices of the Eloyi but also provides context to the early explorations of this region and the impacts of British colonial rule.
