A sensitively told father-daughter story - and a past love. Jakob is on a winter vacation with his family when he receives an unexpected call: Emma, his daughter from a previous relationship, is on the line, and her mother Maria is in the hospital in their South Tyrolean hometown. Jakob and Emma immediately set off together to find out what has happened to Maria. It is his long-lost daughter that the father gently but persistently wins back during the journey to their South Tyrolean home. And, as revealed in flashbacks, it was his great love - Maria, who sought to escape her mountain farmer origins as a student in Vienna.
