Artfully designed wooden doors painted in vibrant oil colors are a well-known landmark of the popular holiday region of Fischland-Darss-Zingst. However, the doors would be nothing without the houses they adorn, serving as entrances and exits. It is the residents of the houses and the stories they can tell that make the doors in Fischland, Darss, and Zingst so distinctive. Susanne Menning and Dorit Gätjen recount how the revival of traditional doors began to spread in the region from 1931 and where the most beautiful examples can be found in the towns of Wustrow, Niehagen, Althagen, Ahrenshoop, Born, Wieck, Prerow, and Zingst.
