The significance of resources and their sustainable use is one of the central issues of our time. This study comprehensively addresses the land on which we live. It highlights the importance and outlines strategies for a climate-positive, future-oriented approach through prudent land use. The research was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and aims for general applicability beyond the precisely examined individual cases. 183 graphics and diagrams analytically illustrate historical, current, and potential future developments in land use in Switzerland. They are complemented by conceptual models for planning and land use, using the examples of the canton and city of Zurich. These demonstrate what a positive approach to the resource of land should look like in the coming decades. This volume thus makes a pioneering contribution to a topic that is becoming increasingly relevant beyond the specialist context.
