Product details
In February 1896, the so-called clothing strike occurred in Berlin. This incident raised broader public awareness of the conditions faced by workers in the clothing industry. At least, this is how Johannes Feig describes it in the preface to his study "Home Industry and Factory Operations in the Berlin Laundry Industry," which was published just a few weeks later and attempts to build on the newly gained attention: While Feig addresses the production and market of the laundry industry in the first part of his work, he focuses entirely on the working conditions and social circumstances of the employees in the second half. He pays particular attention to the connections between their situation and the technical and economic development of the industry.
