Marlow Moss
German, 2017Product details
The British artist Marlow Moss (1889-1958) is one of the few representatives of early constructive art who inspired the great masters of modernism. For example, the so-called double line is one of her most important inventions, which she first used in her painting in 1930. It is one of the elements that not only Piet Mondrian but also Jean Gorin adopted for their own neoplastic compositions. Although they do not reference her, their works are nonetheless closely related to Moss as the originator and share with her a new idea of art and its composition. Unlike her contemporaries, Moss does not limit herself to painting: she translates her linear frameworks and mathematical principles into reliefs and sculptures, which are just as compellingly illuminated in this exhibition catalog as her extraordinary life.
