Harmonielehre für die Praxis

The book offers basic knowledge in the field of harmony and composition in a very practice-oriented way. Topics include chord theory, voice leading rules, basic cadence, secondary functions, intermediate dominants, chromatic modulation, harmonic analysis, and counterpoint. The tasks with solutions refer to analysis as well as independent harmonization of melodies, including elementary contrapuntal exercises in two-voice movement. Jürgen Ulrich (1939-2007) studied composition, music theory, aural training, and piano. He teaches piano, composition, and aural training. Since 1974, he has been a professor for composition and music theory at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. He was a lecturer for music theory at the Landesmusikakademie NRW for over twenty years. From 2000 to 2007, he served as a member of the project advisory board "Jugend musiziert" in the German Music Council. He has numerous publications and compositions.
