A Master Builder on the Threshold of the Modern Era - the first comprehensive monograph on Hans Niesenberger. The late Gothic master builder Hans Niesenberger from Graz was a well-traveled architect and a successful entrepreneur. He worked on the Milan Cathedral as well as the Freiburg and Strasbourg Cathedrals, in Graz, Ravensburg, Basel, Lucerne, and many other locations. Despite so many significant places of activity—and some documented legal disputes and smear campaigns that shed light on his contentious character—little is known about his life's work. Anne-Christine Brehm now presents the first complete biography of Niesenberger's work, which illustrates the genesis and lasting impact of his architectural style, while also considering his network of relationships, clients, competitors, and students. The example of this internationally active master builder also allows for new insights to be gained.
