From 1909 onwards, he emerged as a subtle and local poet (e.g. 'Lied und Leben', 'Lied vom Inn', 'Passauer Nibelungenspiel', 'Stromgold'). In 1922, he self-published his collection 'Niederbayerische Sagen und Geschichten als Begleitstoff zur heimatlichen Erdkunde' (Lower Bavarian legends and stories to accompany local geography), which was then published in a second edition in 1950 in an expanded form by the Passau publishing house Ablaßmayer und Penninger. These 175 legend texts are now being published by Morsak Verlag in a new book edition, edited by Hans Göttler and skilfully illustrated by Jörg Mangold. From the foreword by Rainer Haselbeck, District President of Lower Bavaria: 'With this new edition, Göttler has succeeded in giving an important regional cultural treasure from bygone times a new home in contemporary Lower Bavarian literature.
