Profound transformations in the appropriation of culture shape the current upbringing of children and adolescents: Instead of sensual, primary experiences, media experiences from a secondary source are now coming to the forefront. Action-oriented teaching and learning counteracts this development. The focus of the book is on learning with multiple senses. Chapter 1 establishes the concept in the context of recent approaches. Chapter 2 provides a didactic justification, incorporating modern cognitive and action theories as well as findings from brain research. Chapter 3 develops the pinnacle of action-oriented teaching: project-based learning. Current developments and empirical studies are presented in this context. Chapter 4 illustrates with numerous examples how to integrate action-oriented elements into regular subject teaching.
