Social work today is characterised by its interconnectedness with social tensions and development processes as well as the biographisation of social problems in modern society. The approach of coping with life, which has been developed since the 1970s, takes this complexity into account and offers diverse potentials for analysis and orientation for social work. Although the concept of coping with life is very present in social work, there has not yet been a systematic discussion of the possibilities and limitations that the concept opens up for practical action, theory building and empirical research. The handbook aims to contribute to this discussion. Authors from social work practice and academia discuss the categories of age, life situations and methods of action that are central to the approach, present exemplary areas of application and show the potential of the concept. The volume is aimed equally at practitioners, students, teachers and researchers in social work.
