Handbuch Gender und Religion

"Gender" is perhaps the most important and at the same time the most controversial basic concept in the study of religion. The interactions between religion, gender, and society prove to be multifaceted. The Handbook provides a solid foundation for exploring this area of research, discovering new perspectives on historical and contemporary religions, and reflecting on current debates. The first edition of the Handbook of Gender and Religion was published in 2008. As the first textbook on this topic, it filled a gap in the German-speaking world at the time. The new edition includes some of the chapters from the first edition, which have been thoroughly revised. More than half of the articles have been newly written for the second edition. These new articles adopt and reflect current scholarly perspectives on gender and religion.
