Education and instruction in the area of intellectual development require up-to-date expertise and a special educational approach to adequately support students with intellectual disabilities in their educational development. This handbook provides the current state of special education for individuals with intellectual disabilities through 63 interdisciplinary contributions and can be used in both special and mainstream schools. The professional foundations of special education for individuals with intellectual disabilities are tailored to the various school types with their respective subject didactics. While many other areas of support are integrated into general subject didactics and educational science foundations in the context of inclusion, it is evident that special education for individuals with intellectual disabilities continues to be necessary.
