The "Handbuch der Kirchenpädagogik" has long become a standard work in schools and communities; the first volume is now in its third edition. The second volume now presented supplements it with essential topics: The focus is on the historical architectural epochs of church construction. Typical features, materials and building principles are presented and illustrated with examples. Theological backgrounds are explained and numerous suggestions are given as to how churches of a particular epoch can be made accessible and compared with each other in terms of church education. Contributions on monasteries, monastery complexes and cemeteries, on space and liturgy, on sound and space, and on the religious spaces of Judaism and Islam broaden the thematic spectrum. In addition, there are suggestions for the planning of a church pedagogical event, for church pedagogical work with the church, and for the development of the church's own educational programme.
