Product details

Friedrich Jaennicke (1831-1907), primarily a railway official, published numerous works in the field of art techniques and decorative arts, including manuals on various painting techniques. He also wrote theoretical and art historical essays, establishing a reputation as a skilled art writer.

Following an introductory section that discusses materials and tools as well as the theory of watercolor painting, particularly color theory and harmony, Jaennicke provides an extensive practical guide that introduces beginners to the fundamentals of watercolor painting, covering brush handling and color mixing, coloration, perspective, and contrast. The volume concludes with a brief introduction to the technique of wood painting. This is a reprint of the second, expanded edition from 1877.
