Product details

Jimmie, a chubby young man and the son of Italian immigrants, arrives for work at a London call center. For the rest of the day, he will have to answer questions from customers of a travel agency: Why doesn't our room have a view? Why is the minibar empty? How are we supposed to get a seamless tan if we can't lie naked by the pool? But Jimmie has other problems: Daniel, the curvy actor who has recently become his boss and whom he has a huge crush on. As a result, his commitment to customer service lacks the necessary seriousness, which unfortunately does not go unnoticed by his manager, Simon. Fortunately, the motivation of his colleagues is also lacking: Wolf, the strange German with a missing toe, Helen, the Catalan beauty, and Elin, who dreams of opening a forest kindergarten. Simon asks Jimmie for a meeting; the situation seems serious. While Jimmie waits to find out if he will finally be fired for yet another infraction, Katharina Volckmer tells a story about intimacy and friendship, suggesting that sexual tensions, traumas, and the pain we inflict on ourselves and others affect the office atmosphere far more than Christmas bonuses and free coffee. Moreover, we learn unexpected things about orange toilet tiles, the perfect lipstick color, sad Italian mothers, and working as an actor in funeral homes. Working where no one can see you allows Jimmie to find excitement exactly where he least expected it. Written with British humor and a keen sense of the absurdities of everyday life, "Hello, my name is Jimmie, how can I help you?" is an exploration of the disappointments and joys of not belonging.
