Product details

Hagakure - the original that became globally known through Jim Jarmusch's film "Ghost Dog." This guide to life is regarded as the "Bible of the Samurai" and illustrates the path to a humble, fearless, and decisive life in the moment. Hagakure was recorded between 1710 and 1716 by Tashiro Tsuramoto, primarily based on the teachings of Yamamoto Tsunetomo, a former samurai. He became a Zen monk because, after the death of his lord, he was forbidden by a decree from his master to take his own life through seppuku (suicide). The Hagakure originally contained about 1,300 short lessons, preserved in nearly three dozen different copies. This edition is based on the Yamamoto copy, which is kept as one of the most reliable in the library of Saga Prefecture.
