Product details

Fought, cursed, loved. The book about the harbor crane. Few art projects have polarized and evoked emotions in Zurich as strongly as the harbor crane. 'Zürich Transit Maritim' emerged as the winning project from a municipal competition in 2008 and was realized in dramaturgically defined stages from 2009 to 2015. First, five cast-iron harbor bollards appear along the Limmat, and then the project team uncovers the skeleton of a genuine portal harbor crane at the site where the meat hall stood until 1963. An original ship's horn provides acoustic accents for months. The public and the media closely follow the project, and online and in letters to the editor, the 'harbor crane' is commented on thousands of times. From art schools to kindergartens, everyone engages with the theme. The harbor crane also appears as a metaphor in many other places.
