Product details

Albert Uderzo, born in 1927, became an assistant illustrator at a Paris publishing house in 1941. In 1945, he assisted for the first time in the production of an animated film, and a year later, he created his first comic strips, became a scriptwriter, and soon began producing self-contained comic series. During this time, he created works such as "Belloy, Knight Without Armor" (for the magazine OK) and "Crime Does Not Pay" (for the newspaper France-Soir). Uderzo became an employee of a Belgian agency in Paris, where he met Jean-Michel Charlier and René Goscinny in 1951. With Charlier, Uderzo worked on "Belloy," "Tanguy," and "Laverdure," while with Goscinny, he initially created "Pitt Pistol" and "The Incredible Corsair," followed by "Luc Junior" (for La Libre Belgique), "Benjamin and Benjamine" (for "Top Magazin"), and "Umpah-Pah" (for "Tintin"). In 1959, Uderzo and Goscinny founded their own magazine called "Pilot." This culminated in the creation of "Asterix the Gaul." Albert Uderzo received the Max and Moritz Prize from the Erlangen Comic Salon in June 2004 for his outstanding lifetime achievement. René Goscinny, born in 1926 in Paris, grew up in Buenos Aires and initially worked as an assistant accountant and later as an illustrator in an advertising agency after finishing high school. In 1945, Goscinny emigrated to New York. In 1946, he had to return to France to fulfill his military service. Back in the USA, he worked again as an illustrator and then as an artistic director at a children's book publisher. During a trip to France, Goscinny was hired by a Franco-Belgian press agency, which sent him to New York twice as a correspondent. He gave up drawing and began writing. He created numerous humorous articles, books, and scripts for comics. René Goscinny passed away in 1977.
