We go through different phases that sometimes demand a lot from us. What things give us strength, and which situations cost us courage and energy? Balance is what matters. Time and again, we accompany children in our daily work who struggle with impulse control. Sometimes they manage well, sometimes less so. That is perfectly okay, and every phase of childhood development has its validity. However, due to external circumstances, there are times when children have trouble controlling their impulses and being self-determined for an extended period. A move, a new sibling, the parents' separation - many emotionally taxing situations require a lot of strength and energy from children. It is up to us adults to provide them with the necessary positive reinforcement, support, and assistance so they can emerge from such phases stronger.
