The exploration of the philosophy of the Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment on the Iberian Peninsula and in Latin America still reveals significant gaps, which are addressed in this volume. Methodologically, it is aligned with the guidelines of the Outline of the History of Philosophy, which serves as a bibliographic reference work and, with its contributions to scholarly biographies, summaries of even obscure writings, and especially its historically systematic representations of philosophical doctrines and their reception, is the standard work on the history of philosophy in the German language. The volume initially discusses the institutional conditions of philosophy in Spain, such as academies, literary salons, libraries, and the education system. Subsequent chapters are dedicated to the Novatores of the early 18th century, Benito Jerónimo Feijoo and his generation, as well as the eclectic thinkers.
