About the work
An introduction could hardly be better: short, concise explanations of basic legal concepts, knowledge of which is necessary not only for the study of current law, but also for the study of legal history, quickly familiarise the readers of this work with the subject area under discussion. The subsequent legal-historical remarks themselves outline the development of German law, but deal primarily with institutions that have survived several epochs, while more short-lived phenomena of older law are largely ignored.
The author concentrates on sources and basic features of law from the various phases of German history, beginning with the time of the Germanic tribes. Particular emphasis is placed on the presentation of developments that had a significant influence on our current legal system. The treatise concludes with a survey of the current constitutional reality and thus provides the reader with a comprehensive view of history from a very special perspective.
