The textbook, in its second, significantly revised and expanded edition, is primarily aimed at students in the fields of electrical engineering, information and communication technology, medical engineering, mechatronics, and mechanical engineering at universities and universities of applied sciences in their 2nd to 3rd semester. A basic understanding of the physical principles of electromagnetic processes in components and circuits is assumed. Most calculations are presented for the steady-state, sinusoidal time behavior of voltage and current in linear networks, and then extended to periodic, non-sinusoidal time behavior in nonlinear components. This is done using the mathematical methods of complex phasor representation, matrix description, and Fourier series expansion.
