The author of the Fundamentals of Hydraulic Engineering, Johann Friedrich Bubendey (1848-1919), was a hydraulic engineer, university lecturer, and construction officer. In 1903, he was elected by the Hamburg Senate as the Director of Hydraulic Engineering, where he was responsible for the expansion of the Elbe River and the Port of Hamburg. Bubendey was regarded as one of the greatest international authorities in river and harbor construction. In the book, he describes precipitation and sources, cisterns, wells, reservoirs, bodies of water, the movement of water, riverbeds, water in floodplains, water and steam power, timber rafting, inland shipping, canals, and much more. Illustrated with 82 black-and-white images.
