Grundlagen der Mathematikdidaktik

The volume provides foundational knowledge in mathematics education that is relevant for teaching at the secondary level. It focuses on a student-centered and cognitively activating approach to mathematics instruction, which is based on the currently valid educational standards both in content and concept. On one hand, theoretical ideas and empirical evidence regarding teaching and learning are described; on the other hand, the engagement with the subject of mathematics is emphasized, illustrated with exemplary content and supported by suitable tasks. The topics covered include, for example, justifications for the importance of mathematics education, national educational standards and mathematical competence, fundamental patterns of the subject, the role of tasks and errors in teaching, and the development of mathematical thinking. In the second edition, the examples have been further expanded to strengthen the connection to school practice. The target audience includes students in teacher education programs as well as teachers in schools. The volume can serve both as a summary presentation and as a handbook for specific questions related to mathematics instruction.
