The current German didactics available on the market are mostly extensive, two-volume works that present the various learning areas of German instruction and their subfields in an extraordinarily detailed manner. Based on our experiences with students, these works are less suitable for beginners and for quick, overview information, as they often assume too much prior knowledge. Furthermore, the majority of them approach the subject very theoretically, presupposing a lot of specialized knowledge and partially neglecting concrete teaching practice or only addressing it tangentially. These facts were the reason for presenting a compact introduction to the fundamentals of German didactics, offered as a single-volume work at an affordable price.
