Product details
The field of electrical machines and drives is often perceived as complicated and difficult to understand. Delving into a new subject area is akin to learning a foreign language: new terms, symbols, long equations, a lot of mathematics, pages of text – and how is one supposed to understand all of this? This textbook quickly addresses these challenges.
It is aimed at students in vocational training and further education, as well as those pursuing a bachelor's degree, who are entering the field of electrical machines and drives. Equipped with the fundamental tools of electrical engineering and mathematics, the basics of electrical machines and drives are presented in a clear and concise manner. The technical knowledge is distilled to the essentials. What is not necessary for understanding the fundamentals is either omitted or marked as advanced knowledge. Numerous illustrations support the presentation and convey the key concepts in a clear and varied manner.
After an introductory overview of the fundamentals of mechanics, the book progresses to single-phase and three-phase transformers, direct current, asynchronous, and synchronous machines. Power electronics, as a fundamental part of drive technology, is also covered in its basic principles. The different machine technologies are compared regarding their advantages and disadvantages, and their applications in industry, energy generation, and electromobility are examined.
Practice makes perfect – mathematics and calculations are included. Sample problems, exercises, and learning objectives are available online, free of charge, and interactive. Each question, every step, and part of an answer can be immediately verified. Each task can be repeated with different, randomly varied numerical values as often as desired, allowing for practice until everything is mastered.
