Working self-determined, pursuing visions and investing in the future
There is an imbalance in the German start-up landscape. The proportion of women among all "newly self-employed" was only just under 40 percent in 2022. The share of female start-up founders is even lower at 16 percent, and in the family businesses, which are often owner-managed, only less than one in ten people at the top of the company is a woman. Yet it is precisely in the entrepreneurial environment that women make a valuable, creative and complementary contribution.
So what is the reason for the lack of female founders?
And more importantly, how can it be remedied?

The courage to start up
The State Women's Council of Rhineland-Palatinate has also thought about this challenge and is certain: above all, role models are needed. These are essential for entrepreneurs - for founders as well as for successors in family businesses. In order to give them a stage, the editors Claudia Lässig, Claudia Rankers and Prof. Dr. Nadine Kammerlander invited women entrepreneurs to present their stories and their companies in this book and to give tips on how to start a business:

• Women founders speak in unusually frank words about their motivation, their obstacles and setbacks - and what helped them in these situations.
• Experts complement this inside view with tips on how a start-up can succeed - also in terms of financing.
• Investors round off the picture with their professional perspective and their feeling for the economic market.

In more than 40 individual chapters, female talents are encouraged to think entrepreneurially and motivated to take the step of founding a company. The book is aimed at young women who are still at the beginning of their careers as well as at those who would like to become self-employed at a later stage. A plea for more.
