Grossmütter

A masterfully told, astonishing novel about two women from different continents who embark on an adventurous journey to break free from their seemingly unchangeable fate. This novel tells the story of two grandmothers: one from a poor Swiss farming family and the other from a relatively affluent family in Cameroon. In an incredibly concise, chiseled language, it explores their childhoods, hopes, and disappointments. They marry, face humiliation and degradation. However, through these experiences, a tremendous anger builds up, which ultimately leads to their liberation, aided by their respective granddaughters.
