Grönland: Arctic Circle Trail

The Arctic Circle Trail runs approximately 100 km north of the Arctic Circle between the former U.S. military airfield and the current civilian airport of Kangerlussuaq, which has around 700 inhabitants, and the western port town of Sisimiut, with nearly 6,000 residents. In between, far from any civilization, lie hundreds of smaller and larger lakes, mountains, streams, rivers, and some public huts. The trail, which has no supply options apart from drinking water, spans 174 km through untouched and impressive landscapes, featuring sections with very challenging, rocky, and muddy terrain, crossing countless larger and smaller rivers, and a total elevation gain and loss of 3600 m. With a bit of luck, one might spot musk oxen, reindeer, snow hares, and arctic foxes, or even a sea eagle in the wild.
