Study paper from 2005 in the field of Philosophy - Theoretical (Epistemology, Science, Logic, Language), grade: 2.0, University of Augsburg (Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences), course: Philosophy and Technology, language: German.
Abstract: The philosopher Ernst Cassirer is inevitably associated today with his three-volume major work "Philosophy of Symbolic Forms" (1923-1929). This philosophy encompasses the conditions for the possibility of understanding and the use of signs. In his 1930 essay "Form and Technology," Cassirer undertakes a systematic analysis of technical action as a specific cultural phenomenon and outlines the consequences that its rapid development in our century has on society. Technology is referred to here as a symbolic form and is included among other symbolic forms (language, myth, religion, science, and art). This paper attempts to provide insight into Cassirer's view of the relationship between philosophy and technology.
