The twins Ella and Leo discover an injured bird of prey during a bike ride with their Aunt Sarah. They take it to the veterinarian and accompany "their" red kite after its surgery and initial recovery to a falconer who cares for many other birds of prey. Here, they learn a lot about the native birds and some special representatives of this bird group. As the siblings' interest is piqued and they constantly urge their aunt, Aunt Sarah decides to accept the falconer's recommendation and travel to a bird of prey park three hours away. The twins are totally thrilled by the king vultures, which look like they just walked off a fashion show. But the owls, tawny owls, and eagles are also impressive. Ella is completely amazed when five desert buzzards swoop over her head. The children get to know around 40 different species. Finally, they are allowed to be present at the release of "their" red kite. After a brief flight, it lands on a fence, looks back gratefully at its rescuers, spreads its wings, and flies away.
