Graubündner Totentanz

The herdsman of Altsäss, an alpine pasture high on the Calanda, lies dead in the cheese vat. The milk is stained red with blood, and the horror is great: Toni has been murdered. He was found by the dairymaid Freya Schwarz, who tends the cow pasture with her two sisters. The three young women face the harsh life of the alpine pastures every day, but since they took over the dairy, every Saturday night is celebrated on the dance floor. This attracts not only three brawny woodworkers but also various people from the Chur Rhine Valley, to the point that even the pastor hears about it and warns against the godless activities. Soon after, his body is found in the Schelmentobel below the pasture. Landjäger Caminada and his best friend, identification officer Peter Marugg, are called to the mountain to solve the murders. Their investigations prove difficult and take them back ten years to 1943, when the largest forest fire in the history of the Confederation raged on the Calanda for days. When a third victim is found, the two men must shudderingly realize that evil has many faces and that the mountain also holds deadly dangers for them.
