With this title, a book has been published that pays tribute to the small tin boxes. With over 4,000 color illustrations, Horst-Dieter Linz introduces the viewer to the vibrant world of these small gramophone needle boxes. We all know the enamel signs printed at the beginning of the 20th century as a precursor to advertising posters. The needle boxes had their miniaturized counterparts in these signs. Lovingly designed motifs and advertising prints, some of which were provided by artists, adorn the surfaces of the square, triangular, round, and pyramid-shaped tin boxes. Before the numerous illustrations, the author presents a brief introduction to the history of sound recording and playback and delves into the production process of the sound needles in detail. He describes the ups and downs in the history of gramophones during times of war and economic crises.
