Few understood how to invite young people in the GDR to a life with Jesus Christ like the youth evangelist and pastor, Dr. Theo Lehmann. His clear words were a thorn in the side of the state security at the time, which initiated smear campaigns against him both outside and within the church. The pastor consistently revealed his critical stance towards the state in his sermons. With his biblically faithful preaching, laced with wit and humor, Lehmann reached the hearts of his young listeners, who attended the youth services in the Schlosskirche of Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz, by the thousands. Even into old age—he celebrated his 90th birthday in 2024—the gifted preacher maintained the courage to evaluate the misdevelopments in the church and society.
