Gotthardweg

With the new railway tunnel, the Gotthard has come into focus. In the Middle Ages, a classic trade route led here to Northern Italy. However, since the construction of the highway and railway tunnels, the paths over the mountain have quieted down, offering excellent hiking opportunities. The traditional route passes through a variety of landscapes, cultures, and language regions of Switzerland and can be continued all the way to Milan. It is easily accessible by train, with alternative routes and ascents/descents for partial stages, also reachable by train. There is plenty of information about history and culture.
