'Gotische' Architektur in der russischen Literatur

The present study is based on the relationship between architecture and literature. At the center of the examination is the syntagma 'gothic architecture' and its reception in Russian literature. The discourse, which is somewhat based on a historical approach to concepts, relies on a text corpus whose components were created between 1700 and the early 20th century. The literary works were analyzed in terms of the semantic shift and the function of 'gothic' buildings. Through art historical aspects and a multifaceted content of ideas and metaphors, it became evident that terms can carry complex meanings and extensive interpretations.
