Product details

A ten-sided pavilion, only 33 square meters in size, but a destination for hundreds on weekends: the Silberquelle is one of the most famous clubs in Braunschweig. Whether you're 18 or 80, everyone enjoys themselves there, listening to music and dancing until the morning. Its existence is thanks to Joachim and Gertrud Gorille, who ended up in the city while fleeing in 1945. Amidst the rubble, they constructed their aluminum pavilion. The shiny building was already an attraction back then, initially serving as a kiosk and pub, and today it is a disco. Daughter Claudia Gorille reconstructs in this book, using historical documents and around 400 letters exchanged between her parents, not only the family and Silberquelle history but also the development of the city from the post-war period to the present day.

A remarkable book that has not existed in the Braunschweig literary landscape before: a family story as a city history centered around a place of experience in the flow of Braunschweig's post-war history to the present. The author is closely connected to the key figures and offers extraordinary photographic documents from the family collection. Dr. Uwe Day, historian and journalist

Claudia Gorille's book is an important testimony to the post-war and cultural history of our city - it brought tears to our eyes at times. Susanne and Ulrich Markurth, mayors of Braunschweig 2014-2021

A work that belongs in every Braunschweig bookshelf. Eckhard Schimpf, journalist and author

An exciting story, beautifully told and adorned with great material. I read it with great enthusiasm. Hats off! Matthias Wegner, Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
