Product details
The ideal of "designing things so simply that they endure in terms of content and time" has formed the intellectual foundation of the architectural practice of gmp - Architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners for more than 60 years. The latest volume in the monographic series presents
presents a thoroughly diverse selection of projects completed worldwide between 2015 and 2019 in terms of structural tasks, scale and cultural context.
This period includes some of the architectural firm's best-known and award-winning buildings in Germany, such as the refurbishment and conversion of the Kulturpalast Dresden, the extension of the Kunsthalle Mannheim and the Elbbrücken underground and suburban railway station in Hamburg. The 53 projects in this richly illustrated volume also include major projects in China and the German House in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which won an award for its innovative façade system. There are also some unrealised designs such as the roofing of the Arena di Verona. Building within the existing building stock is of central importance across all building projects and countries.
gmp - Architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners is an architectural practice based in Hamburg with seven offices worldwide. With its generalist approach and around sixty years of experience, gmp realises projects in dialogue with the client and the planning disciplines involved at every scale and cultural context, in every planning phase and on every continent. The spectrum of projects ranges from residential buildings to skyscrapers, from stadiums to concert halls, from office buildings to bridges, from door handles to urban planning.
