The European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 in Historical Transition. In 2025, Chemnitz will become the European Capital of Culture. Photographer Ruediger Glatz chooses the city's old Sorbian name "Kamenica" for his portrait, referencing the long history of Chemnitz. He showcases architectural and urban planning features that serve as visually tangible chronicles of the past, documenting the historical and cultural transformation of the city. The partially abstract and painterly images create an artistic cityscape, shaped by the photographer's personal impressions. The sensitive black-and-white photographs spark our curiosity about the upcoming year when Chemnitz will become a European cultural metropolis. This series of works was created as part of the HALLENKUNST Artist in Residence program.
