Product details

As a renewer of Alpine painting and a significant symbolist of the Fin de Siècle, Giovanni Segantini (1858-1899) is considered one of the great artists of his time and is now regarded as a key painter of early modernism. Numerous exhibitions of his works in recent years have enjoyed great public interest, although some key works have not been loaned out for a long time. Therefore, there has been no current monographic publication that comprehensively presents the entire oeuvre of the artist. This new book now fills that gap. The introductory text on Segantini's life and work also sheds light on the tumultuous history of his reception and his role as a model for figures such as the Futurists or Joseph Beuys. However, the main part consists of 60 paintings from his entire creative period, which are described and commented on in detail. The generally accessible image analyses provide new insights into the topography, iconography, the significance of light, the role of Barbara Uffer as the artist's model, the modern painting style of Divisionism, and the biography of Giovanni Segantini.
